Sa vie privéeBurn est né en 1974 à Hollywood en Californie où sa famille vivait grâce à son père qui était un professeur de langues à l'UCLA. A l'âge de 7 ans, il déménage à Londres. On sait très peu de chose sur sa vie privée, notamment son adolescence. Cependant on sait qu'il est marié à Sarah, une institutrice avec laquelle il a un fils d'un an et demi, Max Hugh qui est né peu après la fin du tournage de Torchwood.
Sa vie professionelleA défaut de savoir ce qui se passe dans sa vie privée, sa vie professionnelle a bien été remplie. Son premier rôle important c'est dans Bleak Jouse où il joue Mr Guppy. Plus tard il joue aussi dans Layer Cake, Penelope, The Best Man, Colour Me Kubrick et Love is not Enough. Il a eu de nombreux petits rôles dans différentes séries comme Funland, Dalziel and Pascoe, Merseybeat et The Inspector Lynley Series.
Plus tard, Burn apparait dans un thriller politique Low Winter Sun aux côtés de Vinca Vaughan et Kevin Spacey. Mais Burn est aussi active dans le théatre. Il a travaillé avec l'Englsh National Opera et a joué dans certains projets avec des compagnies comme le National Theatre Studio, Young Vic, Royal Court, Oxford Stage Company, Paines Plough, et Soho Theatre. Gorman était aussi le Human Beatbox Champion de la BBC. D'ailleurs il est un musicien très talentieux qui a fait des apparitions aux coté de Groove Armada, Neneh Cherry et Rodney P. Il a aussi travaillé sur des videos avec The Streets.
Finalement Gorman endosse le rôle de Owen Harper, un personnage décrit comme étant un géni et en même temps loin de l'être.
